Black Motherhood through the Lens is a documentary series produced and directed by Ade Osinubi, a documentary filmmaker and third year medical student. This series is about four Black women's experiences navigating the reproductive and maternal healthcare system from conception to postpartum. The women in this series have experienced miscarriage, lack of access to fertility care due to being uninsured, fears about childbirth, and postpartum depression and anxiety. Black women face a multitude of disparities when it comes to infertility, fertility care access, maternal mortality outcomes, and postpartum mood disorders. These disparities are not due to biological differences but they are attributed to the systemic bias and inequalities that continue to plague the United States. This documentary series features the stories of four women, who despite these challenges and inequities, boldly pursued their dreams of Black motherhood.
